March 2023 Newsletter.

This month we are excited about our newly bottled spring releases, upcoming events, expanding our Wine Library release program, and announcing our lot for the Willamette Valley Wineries Association Collectors auction.

Spring Releases:  We bottled our spring wines on February 28th, in the snow, an all-hands-on event including help from some wine club neighbors, thanks Nate and Stacy.  As a result, we will be releasing the 2022 Rosé of Pinot Noir, Gamay Noir, and Pinot Gris next month. We also bottled something new for Ruby, Syrah. Sourced from the Columbia Valley AVA, Winemaker Andrew Kirkland says that it “tastes like a Syrah a Pinot Noir winemaker would produce.” The wine has been named Stanley’s Syrah in honor of “the best dog ever”. More details to come this fall for the official release date. Only 100 cases were produced and we are expecting to sell the wine fast at $50 per bottle, to get on the waiting list, email us at info@rubyvineyard.com and let us know how many bottles you would like to reserve. We are looking forward to sharing this wonderful wine with you.

Upcoming Events:  Starting April 1st, members of the Neighbors and Friends wine clubs will be able to make tasting appointments and pick up their spring allocations (watch for email announcements).  Due to the overwhelming response to our release event last fall, the Spring Wine Pick-up Party will be 2 days, April 22nd and 23rd. Saturday from noon to 3:30pm the GroovsALot Blues Band will play some swinging tunes. We will be pairing our new spring wines with ceviche, local cheese, and of course, we will have the famous Ruby Meatballs. Time slots will be available every half hour to make enough space for all of our members. Members receive 2 tickets complimentary and additional guests are $20 each. This is a members’ only event and there is still time to join the Club and get access to exclusive events.

Sunday, April 9th, the Gourmet on the Go Food Truck will be here from noon to 3pm.  Stop in, enjoy a bottle of wine, take in the view from the estate, and pick up your spring wines. You can look forward to their burgers, pulled pork sandwiches and pastrami dogs.

Wine Library Release Program:  As we have tasted our wines year after year it is eye-opening how gracefully the wines develop and retain their bright acidity, intense fruit flavors and perfumed aromas. Starting with the 2015 vintage, we have tucked away limited amounts of our wines to watch them develop in the cellar. We are now saving more of each vintage for future release to our members. The end of March will be the last chance to purchase the 2017 Estate Blend Pinot Noir as it will be tucked away in the cellar. These special wines will be re-released when Andrew feels that they have reached an optimal place in their development. Featured library releases will be offered to our members at select times when we feel a particular wine is reaching a peak in its cellar journey and are looking forward to sharing these rare wines.

WVWA Zachys Auction:  This year, Ruby was invited to participate in the second annual Collectors Auction for the Willamette Valley Wineries Association (WVWA) in partnership with Zachys Wine Auctions. The mission of the WVWA is to promote, preserve, and advance the prestige of Oregon’s Willamette Valley AVA and its wines. This auction positions the Willamette Valley among the most prestigious wine regions in the world. Ruby curated a rare opportunity to acquire 4 vintages of Steve’s Reserve from 2016 to 2019; the lot includes 3 bottles of each vintage so collectors can watch the wine age over many years. The lot also includes a unique vineyard and tasting experience with winemaker Andrew Kirkland at The Nut House. To view and bid on the Ruby lot of Steve’s Reserve visit the auction site here.
